Jordaan Food Tour is so much more than meets the eye: it’s an exploration through the Jordaan neighbourhood- an area that is at the intersection of history and hipness. As this is a food tour we will be wandering down small backstreets to discover the best food in the city at small local places that few tourists will ever know about. Some foodie highlights include the city's very best Dutch Apple Pie, a selection of gourmet cheeses, Bitterballen, Surinamese food (a former Dutch Colony) and herring just to name a handful of the local delicacies you will be enjoying.
Your local foodie expert will enchant you with stories and insights into what being "Dutch" is all about and why people from this small country take so much pride in their country and cool culture. Take a break from being a tourist and experience the real Amsterdam with us.

Great tour with “lekker” (delicious) food. Our tour guide Bernardo was very informative, not just about the food but the history of Amsterdam too. Highly recommend taking this tour!!
The perfect intro to Jordaan and Dutch food

The perfect tour to get to know Dutch food. Helen is a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable, friendly and positive! We talked about Amsterdam and Jordaan, got to try foods we'd never have discovered on our own, and received plenty of recommendations for museums and restaurants to visit. Many thanks to Helen for such a nice intro to Amsterdam!
Excellent guide and experience

Our guide Helen was amazing. Her English is perfect and she was very knowledgeable about Dutch food, culture and history. She was very attentive to the participants and made me feel very welcome. Helen gave many recommendations for restaurants and activities in Amsterdam based on where you were staying. I highly recommend Eating Europe and especially Helen!
Fun, informative, relaxing, a treat

Took the tour in December 2022 with Helen as our guide. She is a warm and genuine person who made everyone feel at home and gave each of us so much individual attention. The stops themselves were historic and interesting and all reflective of the iconic and unique aspects of Dutch culture and history. Well worth it and I would do it again with friends and recommend it to anyone as well. Thank you Helen for making our afternoon so special.

Helen took us to great selection of bars, cafes and shops, all selling the best examples of their specialty. A wonderfully warm and filling lunchtime despite the chilly season! Food tours are a great way to learn a little about the city and a lot about the local favourites.

My wife and I did the Jordaan food tour with Helen and it was absolutely fantastic, could not have asked for a better guide or time. I had never done a food tour before and was not sure what to expect, but Helen did an amazing job merging history and food discussions while taking us to some amazing local eateries that we would have never found ourselves. I would give more than "5 stars" if I could, it was a magnificent experience and I would do it again!
Great knowledgeable guide.

Gerard was great, a very likable guide for the afternoon. He explained everything clearly and answered all of our questions about the walk. There were only three of us in the group (ex Gerard) so it was taken at our own pace which was good. Three and a half hours felt like two. Thanks Gerard.

A Delicious Introduction to Dutch Food & Culture

I took this tour on December 19, 2022. It was a cold, drizzly, overcast day in Amsterdam. Bring an umbrella and wear warm clothing if you take the tour in winter.
I was in Amsterdam for a pre-cruise stay before boarding a ship to do a Yuletide cruise through The Netherlands and Belgium. The meeting place was within walking distance of my hotel near Centraal Station.
Our tour guide was Rudolph. He was wonderful - knowledgeable, funny, and made an effort to involve everyone on the tour and get to know them. As a former city planner I appreciated his knowledge of the history and development of Amsterdam.
I made the mistake of eating breakfast. By the end of the tour I was full and didn't need lunch. Some of the foods we tasted included apple pie, 4 kinds of gouda (pronounced How - da), 2 sausages and 2 meats, Dutch split pea soup, Dutch pancakes ( poffertjes), and Surinamese chicken satay with peanut sauce. The tour was on a Monday and the fish shop was closed, so we were not subjected to raw herring. Most of the stops included a beverage - tea, coffee, juice, soft drinks, beer, or wine.
I would definitely do this tour again the next time I'm in Amsterdam.
Delightful

Guide was extraordinarily prepared and an absolute joy to be led by. His knowledge and communication skills were all one would desire in a guide who loves Amsterdam. At the same time he was objective in presenting the history and character of the Dutch people.
Great way to familiarize ourselves with Dutch cuisine

Great tour. Benardo was very knowledgeable about everything we tried - especially the cheeses and herring. Got a bonus sweet that was being served around new years in Amsterdam. Well worth it. Come hungry!
Amsterdam Food Tour

Much longer than needed and at a slower pace than desired. Apple pie in the first stop was delicious and not at all as expected coming from the US. It is not as sweet and has more of a cake texture. We also had herring, kibbeling, cheese, Surnamese food, fries, and bitterballen. The fries was at a place that is actually known for its sandwiches so it was surprising to just eat fries there and honestly it wasn’t really worth a stop. All very local foods and were decent/good to try if you haven’t had these in Amsterdam.
There were only three times on the whole tour that we went inside and sat down - the first one (apple pie), one in the middle (fries), and the last one (bitterballen). All three of those places we also were able to have drinks (beer, sodas, etc). The other times we were either standing around waiting or there was just one bench for the whole group. The ending was probably my favorite part. We went into a small tavern type place and got a local gin-type liquor called jenever (or a beer). Our group was really fun and we had some fun cheers with these drinks. The bitterballen was delicious too.
Overall the tour was nice but it could have been at least an hour shorter if it were more efficient as we spent a lot of time waiting for food.
